Short takeoff and landing military transport aircraft
Description:
Intended to deliver practically all the range of air-mobile equipment and weapons with a total weight of
35–47 t, air dropping of up to 110 paratroopers and weapons, including single cargo items weighing up
to 21 t, air landing of 300 soldiers with individual weapons and evacuation of 206 injured and diseased.
FUNCTIONAL FEATURES
Depending on a way of use and take-off weight, the aircraft ensures a possibility of operation both from
1 550–1 800 m long concrete runways with low-strength pavement and from 600–700 m long unpaved sites with low-strength soil. In the STOL power rating, when operating from 600–700 m long unpaved runways with low-strength soil, the An-70 ensures transportation of 20 t of cargoes to a range of 3 000 km.
Four D-27 engines with SV-27 coaxial propfans ensure high cruising speed with 20–30% saving of fuel in comparison to other modern aircraft with turbojet engines. The digital integrated avionics complex ensures operation of the aircraft at all latitudes at any time of the day in VFR and IFR conditions, flights above an unmarked terrain, protection against AD facilities, combat formation flights, take-off and landing on unequipped unpaved airfields. A built-in aerial delivery system ensures self-contained loading, unloading and air-dropping of a wide range of cargoes.
